To Find The Answer Check Your Inbound Links…

What is an inbound link? It is a link that sends someone to your website. When I type  www.google.com <– That is an inbound link for Google (clicking it will send you to Google’s webpage.)

So, you have been reading my post and trying to get all your friend to start linking to your website.  Now you are wondering “How will I know when they have done it. When will I know if they have posted a linking to my website, blog, twitter, ect..”

I’m glad you asked. This is really easy to do.

First: Go to a Search Engine like Yahoo
Second: Type   link:www.yourwebsite.com     No space between “:”and “w”
Two steps now you know who is linking to you

Why would you want to know this?

I just searched for links to the church bartender’s blog.
Step 1: Went to Yahoo
Step 2: Typed link:http://thirdplaceconsulting.blogspot.com/  He has 396 links.
One link was from mattevans.cc to the churchbartender.  Matt said, “[Our] idea was to contact Michael Trent of ThirdPlace Consulting to help us design a cafe and develop a strategy for using it as part of the church’s mission & vision.  Michael’s innovative ideas and passion have been unbelievable.”

This is an excellent tool to see if anyone is blogging/talking about your church’s site and if you have any links pointing from undesired websites.
Tip: This isn’t golf, more links equal more influence

You can also use  Google, DogPile, MSN or any search engine

Add Your Church to Google Maps

Adding your church to google maps is really easy and will help people find  you even if you’re  portable.  I just added ARC in less than 5 min.

Step 1.  Go to the Google Local Business Center

Step 2.  Fill out the information. Don’t forget to add your website.

maps

Step 3. The next screen will ask you to list relevant local keywords. These are the key words people will use to search for your church. Type “church” for your keyword. You can also upload a photo so people will know what to look for when they come on Sunday.

Step 4. Now, all you have to do is verify your new listing. Click verify by telephone. You’ll receive a call within a few minutes; just enter the code given to you, and your listing will be activated!

It’s that easy to get your church to show up in google maps!

INBOUND LINKS

Defined: An inbound link is a link on a website that leads to your or your church’s own webpage.

Inbound links are one way google judges how popular you are on the web.  Think of them as votes.  You want as many votes from as many popular sites as possible.

Notice I said popular sites.  Links from unpopular sites don’t hurt you, but they don’t help nearly as much as links from a popular site.

try this:

go to google.   type in  “church“

Saddleback Church     is Fourth in the line up

Friendship-West Baptist Church     is on page 50

Have you ever wondered why this is. One reason is because Saddel Back has more inbound links.  Saddelback ranks higher so you had rather they link to your site than West Baptist.  However every vote counts and the more the better.

If you noticed I helped both Saddleback and West Baptist by putting links to their sites in my blog post. You can help me by linking to my blog if you forward this info to a friend and help yourself by posting a comment below with a link to your website or blog.

This week I will be studying SEO which stands for Search Engine Optimization. In other words MAKING YOUR WEBSITE SHOW UP IN GOOGLE FOR FREE!!!

In short there are ways to “label” your website so that it google can recognize it. This is different than pay-per-click (paying to make your site show up.)

Stay tuned…
