Wait 6 years.

Today Tony Ashmore pastor of Church at Mirror Lake told me about a lady that came to C@ML.

She walked in and he asked, “How did you hear about us?” She responded, “From you mail piece.”

“From the one we sent out for Christmas?”

“No, from when you launched your church.”

To put things in perspective, C@ML launched 6 yr ago. That’s right The bulk mail out letter was on her refrigerator for 6 years.

Moral of the story: don’t judge success by the first day.

snowy-churchI just saw this on a pastor’s blog: “We’re canceling church for tonight because … snow emergency! To all of my southern friends, this is life in Minnesota!”

Later he talked about Free PR (He meant “Publicity”)

“Years ago we canceled our midweek service when there was a huge snow storm and we didn’t even have a midweek service to cancel! True story! We were a smaller church with no midweek and I saw all of these churches listed on the scroll on all the major TV channels and also being announced on the radio and I though “Why not us!” Now of course, we didn’t have a midweek service but I still called all the stations and told them River Valley Church in Apple Valley was canceling all midweek service activities, just so we could get mentioned! I sat there with a big smile on my face as I watched our church get a ton of free PR! (It did cause some confusion however with our members wondering when we had started a midweek service!)”

I love what church planters will do to get mentioned.

Do you have a story about something you did to get free publicity?

Maybe you should market like this.
