email-disclaimerDo you have to put a disclaimer on you emails?

I’m not sure but I decided to anyways. Maybe I should add “Or at the dinner table or baseball game or across the pew.”

Do you have a disclaimer?

Church Signs

Here is another church sign!

churchsign3I kissed a girl and Liked it… Then I went to Hell..

Who ever said that didn’t read Craig Groeschel’s Blog today.

Here is the story from Swerve- Craig Groeschel

“This week, a pretty cool thing happened over at the Stuff Christians Like blog. On Monday, Jon Acuff shared an idea with his readers: let’s raise $30,000 to build a kindergarten in Vietnam. He hoped to reach that goal by December 31. Instead, it happened in 18 hours. From 5:00am to 11:00pm, readers donated the full $30,000 so that 240 kids in Vietnam could go to school. Building on the momentum from the overwhelming response, they’ve set their sights on building a second kindergarten by his initial goal of December 31.

It’s great to see social media being used effectively to engage people in causes, particularly financially. There’s a lot we can learn from this.”

It is great to hear what God is doing through Social Media!

A pastor friend of mine just got a great deal on local TV commercials for his church.  My first thoughts were, “Wow, that’s a total waste of time.” Instead of writing him an email on my thoughts, I decided to put them in a blog post.

After doing some research my thoughts have changed.

New Thought: Local TV Commercials are Effective!

But only if they appeal to your target audience.  Of course, to appeal to your target audience you first have to know them (or be really lucky). Appealing to your target audience will have to be covered in another blog post.

Case Study

local-marketing-Cullman-Liquidation

Recently, a radio show in my home town called Rick and Bubba interviewed a man named Robert Lee. Robert owns Cullman Liquidation.  His business increased when he ran a local commercial. It is short (1.15 min) watch this awesome local commercial by clicking here.

Questions for your local commercial:

  1. Are you painfully honest?
  2. Is the real “YOU” coming out?
  3. Do you have Rhett & Link’s help?
  4. How will your target audience respond?
  5. Most much will it cost?

If you want to watch behind the scenes of the  commercial click here.

Videos Strengths:

Owner introduces himself and the business.

“Hi, I’m Robert Lee and I own Cullman Liquidation.”

He says what they do and don’t do.

“I sell mobile homes & ain’t gonna waste your time”

“These aren’t mansions, they come in 2 pieces”

“If that’s what your looking for then that is what I got.”

Introduces the staff.

“She decorates. She sells & these guys help me move them.”

Throw in random “sex appeal”

Girl smoking with a cougar roar.

Shares Real Life Stories.

“A bouncer in Birmingham hit me in the face with a crescent wrench five times,” he says. “And my wife’s boyfriend broke my jaw with a fence post. So, if you don’t buy a trailer from me, it ain’t gonna hurt my feelings.”

Makes the Big Ask!

So come on down to Cullman Liqudation and get yourself a home. Or don’t. I don’t care.

My question to the pastor:

What can you learn from Robert Lee?

Problems that technology cannot solve.

  1. Human Evil.
  2. Human Suffering.
  3. Human Death.

These points came from a video of Billy Graham Speaking at TED in 1998.

This video really grabbed me today. It is long (26 min.) But it was a great reminder of what is important. I get caught up in “new” things.  It took this great leader to make me RELAX and think “Focus on the important things.”

byoc_bring_your_own_chairFor some reason I started a word document titled “If I had a church…”   It is still short.

5 things we would do in my church:

(Notice it is WE not I.  It would be impossible alone.)

  1. We would pray for other churches.
    • I have a greater appreciation for the the power of prayer looking back over this year. The power is real.
  2. We would write thank you letters.
    • For everything!
  3. Weekly meetings may become monthly meetings.
  4. Everyone would help with sermon prep.
    • I don’t totally have this one figured out yet.
  5. We would have BYOC once a year.
    • (Bring Your Own Chair.)

What Would You Do At Your Church?

This picture would go really great with a post about the struggle to be relevant with out compromising the gospel.  Other people that have already written on that topic. Instead, I would like to introduce a church planter named Kyle Turner.

Kyle is starting a new church in Kansas City.

{If you have any friends there tell them to look for “The Cause Community Church“}

Kyle and I spoke yesterday. He sounds pretty AMPED about pimping the cause around KC. (Me, trying to use slang in an attempt to be relevant.)

Check out their Website thecausekc.com;  Facebook Page and Twitter @thecausekc if you would like.

Have a Great Day!

I think we should bring the scroll back myself…
