How would your church respond to the gay couple above?  Would they say NO?  Some would say your church hasn’t evolved. Do you need to evolve?

Gay Marriage

The only way to know is to think through the following scenario. Two people (same sex) come to your church to get married? How do you respond?

Do you need to Evolve? YES!!!

How to Evolve

Create a policy.  A friend of mine realized last year, his churches could be sued if they didn’t marry (or discriminated against) gay couples desiring marriage.

If you didn’t know, some churches don’t promote gay marriage.  Others have questions about what the bible says about marriage.  You can’t just ignore the issue of gay marriage. Some church planting organizations recommend churches to have a policy_regarding_marriage {click to view a copy}. The policy clearly defines the churches views on marriage.  If you create one yourself stick to your beliefs.  Changing your policy after you have discriminated would be to late…  To evolve you don’t have to change you belief just write down what you already believe.

How does your church define marriage?

{I’ll admit I’m no pro-blogger. I just wanted to inform that you may need to create a policy reguarding marriage}

One Response to “Has the Church Evolved? Gay Marriage.”

    My friend Richie Merrit Posted this on Facebook. He is a church planter. He is cool. I wanted to make sure everyone saw what he had to say…

    “If we believe in Freedom of Speech; then it should not matter whether I am for or against it no? If I choose not to marry a heterosexual couple who is living in sin is that any different? No.., You set a standard of what you will or will not do and stick to it – for or against.

    A church should not be sued or penalized for exercising the same … Read Morefree speech afforded anyone else – period. We should have the right to perform a wedding for whom we choose and there are plenty of people around who will do one or the other. The only reason to sue is to make a point or to get a headline – pure and simple. In my opinion this sets churches up for open season and that is ridiculous. The social issues and moral issues are just as different as government and church and the two should not intersect with respect to choice. We are in the pickle we are in because the Church has done such a lousy job at representing Jesus and sticking its nose where it should not be. Let Jesus Change hearts and the law of the land will change with it; not the other way around.

    Ok.., I’m off my high horse.”

    I fully agree. Thanks Richie
