Textual harassment is something affecting our youth today. guy_walkers_blog_girl_textingOur culture is changing.  People become bolder when they don’t have to communicate face to face.  No longer do you have to go to someone’s house to bother them, you can do it from the convenience of your cell phone.

Have you seen text messages go from sweet to annoying or possibly overwhelming?

Do you know who is texting your kids? or if your kids are feeling overwhelmed?

Textual harassment is something parents and youth pastors need to be aware of and educated on.   If you want to learn more check out this website. It has some great resources like “Callout Cards” and “Discussion Boards”  all relevant to TEXTUAL HARASSMENT.

Have you ever been harassed through social media?

Hey Guy, This is a timely post since I just added text to my daughter’s phone a few days ago. Her friends don’t even TALK on their phone anymore, it’s ALL about text! I will check out the website for more info. I will definately keep my eyes open for any signs of harrassment and she knows that I may check the content of her text messages at any time Thanks for this. Susan .

This is one big concern of mine with social networking/texting. As cool as some of this technology is, it can easily be misused or overused. Some things of value can be lost, such as face-to-face interaction if these tools are misused. The power of anonymity is great as well, since situations that may not happen face-to-face can easily happen when you no longer are directly dealing with a person, but relying on a tool for communication. Like the internet, facebook, and any other tool out there it needs to be handled with care and concern.
